The Vocational School Masada Darmstadt 1947-48
The Uniqueness of the School
|
1. It was a school that was created from DPs from the surrounding
Camps
whereas almost all the other schools existing within the DP Camps.
2. The school, from Moshe Mordchelewitz testimony, was the sole initiate of Samuel Milek Batalion. He came with the idea to Moshe and then presented the idea to the central committee of Betar in Munich.
3. A Betar School - almost all the schools for DPs known after the war were created and supported by ORT with no idealistic or political affiliation.
4. The School was financed with the assistance of the Betar Central Committee in Munich. The
local American Military Government gave some minor support. The regional German Government and the City of Darmstadt provided the facility of the school and the living quarters of the students nearby. The local school authorities provided professional teachers. The Jewish community and JOINT supported some of the students. |
